There are very few advancement like IVF which have impacted the overall quality of life so much for so many couples.
In India only, approximately 27 million couples are facing the curse of being infertile. Going by statistics approximately one in every 7-8 couple is facing this issue.
Egg freezing is the upcoming biggest technological advancement in the field of ART.
This technique has given the opportunity to a single women /cancer patient to delay motherhood .as cancer survival rates are now quite good, we should try to preserve the fertility of young men and women suffering from various types of cancer who are about to lose their fertility due to cancer treatment.
Origyn Fertility and IVF center is one of the most renowned centers for fertility preservation in India. We are the referral centre for cancer patients from Rajeev Gandhi Cancer Institute, Max, Shalimar Bagh and Action Balaji hospital on a regular basis. Almost daily, we are preserving sperms of young boys and men.
Now with increasing awareness of various fertility preservation options for women as well, we are being approached by parents of many young girls as well.
Social egg freezing also is increasingly being requested by many women, who are planning to delay childbearing, either due to unavailability of the suitable partner or due to cancer issues.
Some multinational companies like facebook and google have even started sponsoring for egg freezing for their female employees.
Cost of egg /embryo freezing (either for delaying childbearing or prior to cancer treatment ) is almost like an IVF cycle that in between 1.5 lakh rupees to 2 lakh rupees.
At Origyn Fertility and IVF, we are increasingly getting more and more women who want to freeze their eggs. Mostly these women are in their thirties.
This technology is the answer for “Ticking Biological Clock ”and very useful when faced with a dilemma of choosing between career, and having a baby or waiting for the right partner without bothering about ticking biological clock.
IVF In-vitro Fertilisation (Test Tube Baby) is a boon for childless couples, but with its advancements still, a few stigmas are associated with it. People have myths in mind regarding the procedures of IVF and also about the resulting child from it. As they think whether the baby is as normal as a normal baby, are they free from any kind of deformities? The first IVF baby Louis Brown who was born in 1978 and she is the example that she is herself now a mother of the baby child. It is high time to bust the most common myth that IVF babies are different from naturally conceived ones. Although conception of the IVF babies is not natural, it is out of women’s body in a petri dish of an embryology lab, but with the advanced technology and medical expertise the results of the artificial conception are at par with the natural conception.
In case of IVF, the egg is fertilized by the sperm (Male Partner) in a lab under the supervision of skilled and experienced embryology team and IVF doctors. A certain level of embryo growth takes place in the Embryology lab and once the embryo has reached the right stage in its development, it is placed in the female partner’s uterus, after which the growth and entire pregnancy carry on as it would have been as in natural conception. Couples with fertility issues opt for IVF because either the male or female partner or (in some cases, both partners) has a fertility issue that prevents natural conception.
While it is true that in IVF, the doctor inserts the embryo into the uterus of the female through the cervix, from that point on, the pregnancy is like any other. So we must bear in mind that the technology used is referred to as Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), not Artificial Reproductive Technology.
Whether it is natural conceived baby or IVF conceived baby chances of abnormalities are same. IVF babies are as healthy as other babies, nobody can tell a difference between an IVF baby and a naturally conceived baby. For all the couples facing fertility issues, it is advised not to believe in myths blindly. so it is advised to take this crucial decision after doing research and gain knowledge of IVF, instead of blindly believing in myths associated with it. They must consult a good expert IVF specialist doctor to clarify all their doubts and then only proceed further.
IVF babies are as normal as other children. In fact, until one is told, it is impossible to distinguish between IVF baby and other children.
Our patient Mrs. Aditi (name changed to protect privacy of the patient) 38-year-old patient, married for 2 years had been advised donor egg IVF cycle at multiple places. When she came to Origyn IVF, she was very distressed and wanted to conceive with her own eggs desperately.
We explained to her that for donor egg IVF there is no age limit, so she will have that option open to her even if comes to us 5-10 years later and since she has not yet attained menopause and less than 40 years of age, she should definitely be trying with her own eggs.
So we gave her simple egg forming oral medication followed by few more ultrasounds to track her follicle growth.
She formed a very nice follicle in her left ovary at approximately 20mm size of follicle.
She was given an injection for follicle to rupture and after 36 hours of that injection Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) was done with husband’s semen.
17 days later, she could not believe when her Urine Pregnancy Test (UPT) came positive.
In this patient she had been married only for 2 years (late marriage – not that she was infertile for long period of time) and her tests like Tube Test, Ultrasound, husband’s Semen Analysis were normal except for extremely poor AMH (Anti mullerian Hormone – 0.17 ng/ml).
AMH tells us how much reproductive life span a lady has like in this woman, definitely she had very little time left, but she was still forming few eggs and had not completely exhausted her reserve.
Such patients should be given a chance to conceive from their own egg by simple measures like: IUI or Natural Cycle IVF – before finally proceeding for donor egg IVF if no conception.
Such positive result at extremes of situation give us impetus to try harder and harder for our patients and give them best result with minimum medication and treatment.
One of the story of our patient will make you believe that even miracles take a little time to happen. Life doesn’t end in 50’s, it’s never too late to become a mother.
Our patient Mrs. Rajni (name changed to protect privacy of the patient) 50 year female came to us with previous 3 IVF failures along with thin endometrium and fibroids in uterus. She had a history of 3 year menopause and known case of hypertension.
After loosing hope to get pregnant through various IVF treatment she was completely shattered and came to us with a ray of hope.
Patient was counseled and told that due to her Poor Ovarian Reserve along with thin endometrium and fibroids in uterus she has to go for donor egg IVF and the success rate of IVF in her case in < 50%.
She gave a history of long estrogen therapy given to prepare her uterus for embryo transfer but in spite of this uterine lining never thickened beyond 6.5mm.
Knowing a fact that pregnancy can risky at her age as she was known case of hypertension we told her to go under a full health checkup under which certain test were done like: Chest X-Ray, ECG blood investigation (Haemogram, Blood sugar, LFT, KFT, Lipid Profile, ETC)
After screening all her reports we started donor egg IVF
Her treatment protocol that was followed:
After using all the experimental techniques when patient came to us after 12 days she gave us good news with positive B-HCG Reports. Now she is carrying a singleton pregnancy.
Uterine fibroids are benign (non-cancerous tumors) that originate in the uterus. They usually develop during the childbearing age of women, and most common genital pathology found in this age group.
Symptoms of uterine fibroids:
Most of the time women with fibroids are unaware of its presence, as it does not lead to any symptoms.
But in some women it can lead to:
Other Symptoms are based on the size and location of the fibroids in the uterus.
In some cases if the fibroids are affecting the endometrium lining than it may lead to infertility also.
Sometimes fibroids can cause blockage of the opening of fallopian tubes into the uterus that may lead to infertility.
Conclusion: Mostly no treatment is needed if you are not suffering from any symptoms.
A condition in which sperm count is lower than normal is called as oligospermia.
Generally it is considered when the sperm count is <15 million sperm/ml.When there is no sperm that condition is called as azoospermia.
Usually low sperm count is in association with low motility and abnormal shapes of sperm as well.
A couple trying to have a baby for more than 1 yrs, yet not able to conceive, than low sperm count may be the reason for not conceiving.
In such situations couple should consult an infertility specialist consultant.
Causes of low sperm count
In about 50% cases no cause can be found, in rest following may be present:
Treatment for low sperm count
To avoid heat: wear loose cotton clothes instead of tight clothes, minimize the exposure to heat
Avoid keeping Laptop in Lap
Stop addiction like smoking and alcohol.
Some vitamins & antioxidants also may help in Low Sperm count.
Finally in case of low sperm count and low sperm motility ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) should be use to facilitate conception by IUI (Intra uterine insemination) or by IVF ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).

Pregnancy loss occurs in 10 to 15% of all pregnancies, of which 1-2% are recurrent. The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined miscarriage as the loss of a fetus weighing <500g, which would normally be at 20-22 complete weeks of gestation.
Recurrent abortion is traditionally defined as three or more consecutive miscarriages occurring before 20 weeks.
ASRM guidelines suggest two or more clinical miscarriages (Ultrasound Documented) but may not be consecutive.
1. Antiphospolipid Syndrome thrombophilia. Ecosprin & Heparin
2. Parental Chromosomal abnormality: Treatment may be either use of donor gametes or IVF with PGD
3. Unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss: No proven treatment yet available for unexplained reasons but lot of clinical trials are going on for immune therapy / G-CSF Therapy etc.
4. Progesterone Support

“Beti Bachao Beti Padao”
“Beta beti ek samaan”
“If daughters are not born where will u get daughter in laws”
“If you kill a daughter you kill a mother , a sister, a daughter and many more relations too”
These are few slogans heard these days with awakening launch of nationwide campaign of “Save Girl Child” by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi ji. This has opened the eyes of society with the true facts of dropping ratio of boys versus girls i.e 10 : 7 which is an alarming signal for Indian social setup . Many celebrities and learned people have joined hands for it to make this campaign a success. Madhuri Dixit is the brand ambassdor for this project. Below is the story of my own childhood memories , which is itself an example of that girls are not curse and no less than boys.
Now being a IVF specialist , if I recall back at my own personal story and my childhood memories I feel on the top of the world to have been blessed with good parents . I have been brought up in a middle-class family setup, from a very small town of U.P , Khekra, but very lucky to have such a open minded and educated parents for whom we four sisters were not a burden. They made education our weapon and we all succeeded in our career. We were provided with all oppurtunities that are given to boys. I was always inclined to study in science stream but in our girls school there was no science , so I was admitted in boys school which was a revolutionary step itself in small town , khekra , and soon other girls of our town joined me in that school . I completed my higher secondary with a place in UP Board’s merit list than got into BHU for my MBBS and after that did all my higher studies further. My other sisters too are doing best in their career my parents have proven in Khekra that ,if we are dertermined no one can stop us to achieve the goal. Today my parents are very proud of their 4 daughters and say that they are the happiest persons in the world. My intention to convey that we should give equal oppurtunities to girl child and girls make parents much happier than any boy will do.
